KJC - “EMBRACISM”
CARA STRICKER
Shooting the shit out of Kirin in a very tiny Greenpoint bathroom with cool experimental approach to post. Predominately the core of this video will remain performance based, super real with experimental visually aware handworked post.
EMBRACISM explores the deconstructed visual image through intimate, uncomfortable and eroticised moments captured within a simplistic performance based video clip. The intense and disturbed material aims to be uncomfortable yet hypnotic, and present taboo footage both in camera, and in post camera affects.
The guitar solo introduces the initial workings of the deconstructed image.
Prior to this Kirin sings alone to his song, a crunchy playback, his voice loud and raw in the shower. You see a glimpse of the camera woman filming him, he remains unawares – she pulls him from behind the lens, as just plays his song on an ipod and performs alone in the shower. Its unforgiving and raw. Extreme close ups of his skin, eyes and mouth as he sings, the uncomfortable feeling resonates.
The guitar solo drops -a close up glitch of the guitar repeats playing one note, holding for longer than feels natural. It feels digitized yet erotic, sexualized and disturbed. The image begins to deconstruct.
Basic rotoscoping, glitching repetitive actions, and breaking apart of pixels within the image and across two images, generates an hyper real awareness of the audience and subject. The clip swings between this raw bathroom scenario and a black out studio where Kirin is captured more as an aliened super real human. Extreme close ups of his sweaty unforgiving, scarred tattooed and almost undernourished body play off one another, with underwater camera footage further captured to explore his raw nature intense and bare . The effects of the digital world become heightened, through the looping of foreign elements from both scene interacting with one another and almost crashing the visual image presented to the audience. It feels erotic, almost homo erotic sexual, disturbed with elements of a playful ‘naf’ post CGI compositing. The intensity gives off a raw eroticism almost as intense as him masturbating with the instruments. Bizarre unrelated objects such as weights, guitar, razors, as his veins pop, are introduced into the scene, recalling visual relationships to skin head attitude.
